tablished artists aren't producing
amazingwork, in fact many of the
works in the show from seasoned
invited and juried artists are
pushing the boundaries of what
has been presented in the past,”
she said.
Jesse Reno is one of those es-
tablished artists who created a
work called "Welcome" for the
show. Reno paints with his hands
and fingers. The process for him
is intuitive, much like the Action
Painters (think Jackson Pollock).
He waits to see what becomes
revealed in his work. "Welcome"
is a great example of the inner
workings of his artistic mind.
Palmarin Merges is another ex-
citing newcomer to the Festival of
the Arts, although she is not new
to the art community. Her work
reflects her love for multimedia.
"Taking lithographs I made in
grad school, collagraphs I made
in Japan, monoprints and screen
prints created in Oregon, and in-
corporating fabric and machine
sewing, as well as sewing by
hand and embellishing themwith
embroidery and thread, I explore
the material quality of the fabric
and the means by which the pa-
per and cloth are connected,” she
said.
The diversity of work in the ex-
hibit is amazing. Artists like Park,
Andrea Benson, Don Bishop and
Christopher Shotola-Hardt have
all put their best foot forward to
create artwork for the special
50th anniversary. There aremany
returning artists whose work are
crowd favorites. Sarah Fagen is
back with three works juried in,
dazzling viewers with her tromp
l'oeil style. Not to be missed are
the works by brothers Bill and
Robert Schlegel.
