Nearly 400 guests attended
the Portland Home Builders
Foundation’s Black & White Gala
presented by Bank of the West
on April 5 at the Governor Hotel
and it has been confirmed as the
highest grossing ever for the or-
ganization.
“The auction grossed over
$235,000.” Ken Cowdery, HBF Ex-
ecutive Director explains, “This
is $90,000 higher than last year,
and the highest in the auction’s
sixteen year history.”
A very special part of the eve-
ning came soon after the paddle
raise began, when Home Build-
ers Association Past President,
Dave DeHarpport, raised his
paddle for $10,000 on behalf of
his father, Dale DeHarpport, also
a Home Builders Association
Past President. Dave also took
the opportunity to announce
that his father would match
all remaining paddle raises
up to $40,000. The match was
achieved with a flurry of exu-
berant paddle raises from the
guests.
US Senator Ron Wyden took
time from his busy schedule to
attend the auction’s VIP Recep-
tion. “I was impressed that Sena-

upcoming renovation of the
Goose Hollow Family Shelter,”
Ken Cowdery explains. “He ac-

Tantalizing aromas of salmon, stuffed mushrooms, and
fresh from the oven banana almond tarts filled the beauti-
ful BASCO showroom on April 17 as more than 100 HBA and
PROmembers and their guests networked and perused the
innovative kitchen designs and appliances permanently on
display at their two-level showroom in the Pearl.
A dozen different food and drink stations were set up
throughout the showroom, while demonstrators were on
hand to offer fresh delicacies and show off the capabilities
of the kitchens’ appliances and special features.
BASCO’s generous partners and suppliers offered up an
array of great prizes, including seats behind home plate for
a Mariners game! And since it wouldn’t be a PRO event with-
out a 50/50 drawing, Terrence Mason was awarded $125 at
the end of the night. The special catch to this raffle is that if
Terrence gets a new member to join the HBA and PRO and
come to the next PRO event, he’ll double his winnings!
The next PRO meeting is sponsored by the PARR Lumber
and will be held at 5630 NW Century Blvd in Hillsboro on
May 15. To RSVP, please contact the HBA at (503) 684-1880
or email Jessica Metteer at

shelter when work begins this
summer.” Portland Mayor Charlie
Hales provided welcoming re-
marks from the stage, and Port-
land Commissioner Nick Fish and
Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle
were also in attendance. Commis-
sioner Fish provided commentary
in the auction video about the im-
portant volunteer role HBA mem-
bers play in building and renovat-
