There may be more, but
here are some things you
might not know about Ti-
gard.
1
IT’S THE PERFECT PLACE
FOR MAN’S BEST FRIEND —
Tigard was the first city
in the county to open a
dog park, believe it or not.
Tigard has more dog parks
than any other city in Washing-
ton County, with three parks
dedicated solely as off-leash
places to relax and play for the
county’s canines, both large
and small.
Opened in 2002, Potso Dog
Park near Hunziker Street is
named after the “first dog” of
Coe Manufacturing, which
leased the land to the city for
years.
The park has since come un-
der city ownership, but is still
home to the annual Dog Days of
Tigard celebration, as well as a
yearly Halloween costume con-
test for man’s best friend
(which was held at Ash Avenue
Dog Park near Southwest Burn-
ham Street in downtown Tigard
this year). The city’s last dog
park, Summerlake Dog Park is
located just south of Southwest
Scholls Ferry Road and east of
135th Avenue inside Summer-
lake Park, 11450 S..WWinter-
lake Drive.

NEXT STOP, THE SUPREME
COURT —
In the 1990s,
the city of Tigard set le-
gal precedent after it
lost a landmark case in the U.S.
Supreme Court. The case,
known as Dolan v. City of Ti-
gard, went before the Supreme
Court on March 23, 1994 and the
court decided that longtime Ti-
gard business, A-Boy Plumbing
and Electrical Supply (which
closed its doors on Main Street
earlier this year) was in the
right when it refused to let the
city install a bike path behind
the store.
At the time, A-Boy had want-
ed to expand its store and in-
stall a parking lot. City planers
gave the OK, but only if the
business would also donate a
portion of the property to the
city in order to build a bike path
behind the store along Fanno
