Decking the halls for the holidays can
o en seem like a monumental task. Haul-
ing out numerous boxes of decorations
(if you even remember where you stored
them last year), weeding out what’s tired or
dated and simply nding time to creatively
festoon every surface is exhausting.
Especially when there is such a short
window of time between
anksgiving
and Christmas like this year.
But before you succumb to Scrooge’s
way of thinking and bunch the whole pro-
cess, consider these words of advice from
Mary Greenslade, owner of Celebrate Me
Home in Troutdale.
“Keep it simple,” she says. “Use things
you already have to create something new.
A candle ring with a candle, your favorite
Christmas statue or lantern and you’ve got
a centerpiece.”
Celebrate Me Home is a palette of in-
spiration for the decorating challenged.
Opened in 1997 as a gi store, the shop
now boasts three levels of furniture, home
accessories and décor ideas aimed at every
lifestyle and personal style.
And if you’re in need of a little help to
freshen up your holiday presentation, look
no further.
Greenslade believes in capitalizing
on every traditional Christmas symbol
as a focal point, beginning with the tree.
A Christmas tree, she says, is a “vertical
display,” meaning it can be a vehicle for
showing o family memories or mak-
ing a stunning statement. But don’t limit
yourself to simply hanging ornaments, she
says. Use items that have special meaning
to your family, weaving them in for a per-
sonal look.
