Essentials not on your back-to-school list
SHOPPING
DOWNTOWN BEAVERTON
S
o, you’ve purchased pens, paper,
erasers, glue sticks and a few colorful
folders. Gathering school supplies is
coming together nicely.
But what else will be helpful for the kids to
kick off this school year in functional style? A
trip to Cedar Hills Crossing shopping center
(3205 SWCedar Hills Blvd.) may just fill in the
blanks.
A new year brings new memories.
Encourage journaling. Take notes in a
colorful new locking
diary
from Powell’s
Books ($10.50 and up). Older students can
document theworld around them in a leather-
boundMoleskine
notebook
($12.95 and up).
Stash that lunch money in a safe place
with the $15 Nike Bank Wallet from Sports
Authority. With a spot for cards and cash, the
wallet
looks athletic and comes with a hook-
and-loop closure. Multiple pockets allow for
organization and a zippered compartment is
perfect for change.
Staying hydrated throughout the day is
important, but lugging a plastic water bottle
around can be exhausting. At about a fourth
of the weight of a 32 oz. hard plastic water
bottle, the Vapur Eclipse 32 oz.
water bottle
from Sports Authority ($11.99) comes in a
variety of colors and is flexible to fold up in a
backpack when not in use. With a water-tight
cap and flip-top opening, the bottle is also
dishwasher safe and BPA free. Strap it to your
backpack and head for class.
Whatever the rule in your family, it’s a
fact that more andmore younger students are
carrying a cell phone these days. Help them
differentiate theirs fromthe rest—hey, itmay
help it from getting lost and share their style
—with a colorful
