Dental community smiles
on Kimberly Wright
Y
ou might say that Kimberly Wright is
in the business of making smiles. As
a dentist, her main concern is help-
ing patients keep their pearly whites
gleaming bright and gums healthy, two things
that make for great smiles.
And evidently Wright is more than just good
at her job. She was recently named Dentist of the
Year by the Oregon Academy of General Den-
tistry.
According to the OAGD, the award recognizes
a general practitioner who has made an extraordi-
nary commitment to service to dentistry, service
to the community, clinical skills and contribu-
tions to and participation in continuing education.
Wright has been a dentist for 25 years and cur-
rently practices as a local general dentist and is
the owner of Advance Dental Arts in Central Vil-
lage.
“I didn’t always know I wanted to be a den-
tist,” she said. “I didn’t go to college until I was
21. I started taking science classes and stumbled
into dentistry.”
She said she has enjoyed the flexibility the
profession has allowed her.
Wright received her undergraduate degree
from the University of Oregon and then went on
to dental school at Oregon Health & Sciences
University. She got involved with the state dental
association while at OHSU.
“I wanted to take part in shaping the industry,”
she said. “There is a saying that ‘If you aren’t at
the table, you will be eaten.’ If you don’t look at
issues, things happen that may not be what you
want, or what is best for your patients.”
Staying involved with the Oregon Dental
Association, the OAGD and the national Acad-
emy of General Dentistry have been important
to Wright. She graduated from dental school 25
years ago and is helping plan the reunion for her
class. She logs about 100 hours of continuing
education each year and currently serves as chair
of the leadership development committee for the
ODA, and chairs PACE.
Advance Dental Arts is located at 1554 Gar-
den St. For more information, call 503-655-
