Rose Farm, Saturdays,
June 1 to Sept. 7
William and Louisa Holmes were pioneers
who joined the great migration in 1843.
Their home, completed in 1847, is the
oldest American home in Oregon City and
was the scene of early government meet-
ings and many social events. The claim
was nicknamed the Rose Farm by friends
and neighbors because of the many
roses Louisa planted in the garden. Tick-
ets are $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and
children 6 and older, and free for children
5 and under. 536 Holmes Lane, Oregon
City. To schedule group tours or for further
information, call 503-656-5146 or visit
mcloughlinhouse.org/rosefarm.

Hopkins Community Forestry
Days, June 8, July 13, Aug. 10,
and Sept. 14
Hopkins Demonstration Forest is a
140-acre privately owned forest open
to the public for self-guided explora-
tion, tours, workshops, and education
programs. Community Forestry Days are
your chance to learn by doing a variety
of projects in a managed woodland -
it’s sort of like a “dude ranch” in the
forest. Volunteers help with tree plant-
ing and pruning; reducing fire hazards
and controlling invasive weeds; repair-
ing trails and maintaining facilities
- projects vary with the seasons. Visit
Forestsforever-or.org.
