n the 1980s Chip Sammons had a dream: What
if there was a pet store that only sold products
with all good ingredients? No toxic chemical
flea collars, harsh shampoos or artificial preserva-
tives, flavors or colors in dog and cat food? Since
no such store existed, he created one in 1988 and
called it the Holistic Pet Center. He even registered
it with the State of Oregon as “The Health Food
Store for Pets.”
Now, 21 years and many local and national
awards later, Chip is still doing what he loves by
sharing great information andwonderful products
at the Holistic Pet Center. He does a live, one-
hour radio program every week, has written a
book on natural flea control, and has co-founded
a great nonprofit. Chip has also become a national
spokesman for the holistic movement. Not only
is he routinely quoted in national pet magazines,
but last year the Holistic Pet Center was awarded
the national “Holistic Pet Store of the Year” by Pet
Product News magazine. Two years ago Oregon
Business Magazine named Chip one of Oregon’s
50 top leaders.
“I met Chip years ago when he was President of
the North Clackamas County Chamber of Com-
merce, and also that same year President of the
Board of Directors at CCI Enterprises, a Mil-
waukie nonprofit who trains and employs adults
with disabilities,” said Angela Fox, publisher of the
Clackamas Review and Oregon City News. “Chip
has become a tireless advocate for the Children’s
Center of Clackamas County and Clackamas
Women’s Services, and is currently on the boards
of the Clackamas Business Alliance, Workforce
Investment Board of Clackamas County, Clacka-
mas Community College Foundation Board, and
even cofounded Friends Involved in Dog Out-
reach (FIDO) in order to assist the dog shelter in
Clackamas.”
Listen to “Pet Nutrition & News with Chip
Sammons” every Saturday morning from 10-11
