8 Community Guide | City of Beaverton 2011-2012 | www.BeavertonOregon.gov

During the past few years, the City has sought input and ideas from the public about how we could build a stronger and more vibrant community. Over a yearlong process, residents, business owners, property owners and employers participated in the creation of the Civic Plan - a dynamic, coordinated set of strategies for the future of Beaverton. Unanimously approved by City Council in April, 2011, the Civic Plan serves as the City’s set of tools and partnerships for bringing many of the most critical and immediate elements of the Beaverton Community Vision to life over the 20-year planning horizon.

In practical steps, Beaverton’s Civic Plan sets out a path toward fulflling many of our priorities.

Learn more about the projects and programs detailed in the Civic Plan strategies. Please visit www.beavertoncivicplan.com.

Example of Immediate Strategies

• Pursue transportation grants • Develop Beaverton Creek Connections • Develop Urban Renewal Plan for voter consideration

• Identify catalyst downtown development projects

Transform Broadway to an exciting destination. Build upon and enhance this classic main street and its buildings to what is being called a festival street. These are low-volume facilities with wide sidewalks, highly visible pedestrian crossings, street furniture, and even small plazas.

Make Canyon a great street for pedestrians. Add wider sidewalks with street trees, cafe seating, and street lighting and reduce congestion on some of Beaverton’s highest traffc streets.
