Fernhill Wetlands,
with walking trails and
sheltered viewing areas, is a serene habitat to
hundreds of species of migratory birds, including
bald eagles, herons, Canada geese and many more.
Henry Hagg Lake and surrounding
Scoggins Valley Park,
just minutes south
of town, are well known to bikers, hikers, boaters,
anglers and birders. Its trails, picnic sites, boat launches
and docks are open from sunrise to sunset, from the
first Saturday in March through the Sunday before
Thanksgiving, for eager outdoor enthusiasts.
Stub Stewart State Park
connects with the Banks-
Vernonia Linear Trail at Buxton and offers cabins,
walk-in tent sites and RV hook-ups, as well as space
for corporate and family gatherings to complement its
bicycling, hiking and equestrian trails and 18-hole disc
golf course.
