Recreation
Getting away from it all is easy when you’re
in Forest Grove.
Within a five-mile radius of the
town’s Main Street you’ll find wonderful venues for
hiking, swimming, bicycling, golfing and more.
Tucked near the foothills of Oregon’s coast
range,
Forest Grove is home to the Henry Hagg Lake
recreation area, Fernhill Wetlands, Pacific University’s
sports complex, a city aquatic center and 10 city parks,
including several that are friendly to dogs.
If you love to bike or run,
head out to the
Banks-Vernonia State Trail just a few miles northwest
of town. The 21-mile forested connection between
those two communities used to be a railroad bed, but is now a bike- and equestrian-
friendly “rails-to-trails” park.
Golfers can choose from several nearby venues
including the nationally
acclaimed Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, as well as other quality links, including Quail
Valley Golf Course. For those who prefer disc-golf, three nearby courses, including
the Grand Lodge, provide plenty of challenges.
Forest Grove is also home to Tree to Tree Adventure Park,
one of the
world’s premier playgrounds in the trees, featuring aerial ropes courses, zip lines and
tree-top obstacles. It’s a family-friendly way to spend an afternoon or a whole day.
There’s plenty of indoor recreation in town, too.
Forest Grove is home
to two PADA-sanctioned dart venues, a 16-lane bowling alley and a
10-table billiard hall with APA- and BCA-sanctioned pool
leagues.
