The Times
Tualatin’s yearly traditions are more
than massive crawfish consumption.
Check out these can’t-miss events to get
the full Crawfish Fest experience:
PANCAKES ON THE LAKE
Breakfast is the most important meal of
the day, especially if you’re gearing up for
a few glorious hours of sun, music and,
yes, more food! Village Inn restaurant re-
turns for another year of serving up hot
pancakes. For $4, adults can have a plateful
of pairings: two scrambled eggs, two pieces
of bacon or sausage (or one of each), two
pancakes —and coffee or juice. Kids can
join in for only $2, which gets them two
scrambled eggs, a piece of bacon or sau-
sage, one pancake and juice. The al fresco
feast runs from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. at Tualatin
Commons.
CRAWFISH CRAWL 5K
This popular gathering of neighbors and
friends old and new is “flat, fast and friend-
ly” — in fact, that’s the motto of the annual
walk/run, which makes use of a safe, closed
bike path and the new pedestrian overpass,
taking participants from Tualatin City Park
through Durham City Park to Cook Park.
The route begins and ends at beautiful
Tualatin Commons Lake — conveniently lo-
cated near the Pancake Breakfast on the
Lake, so runners and walkers can replenish
after they cross the finish line.
The event kicks off with a group warm-up.
The 5K starts Saturday at 8 a.m.
Prizes include goodies from ClubSport Or-
egon and Portland Running Company. Entry
fees include a T-shirt provided by Portland
Running Company and Mizuno.
Registration is $25 in advance and $35 on
the day of the run. Register at one of three
Portland Running Company Locations, or
online at RunWithPaula.com/crawfish-
crawl-registration.
MODEL BOATS
The international fleet of model boats re-
turns for the 13th annual Model Boat Regat-
ta. These painstakingly detailed, high-per-
formance mini-vessels are from model boat
clubs all over North America, and they turn
up for obstacle courses and tugboat turnings
at the Commons. Have your own model
boat? Come on down to the lake and be a
part of the Regatta. The launch starts Satur-
day at 9 a.m.
KIDS’ ZONE
This special area is set aside for the
youngest crawfish fans out there, and in-
cludes all the old favorites — arts, crafts and
activities courtesy of Mask and Mirror Com-
munity Theatre and the Tualatin Public Li-
brary. And this year, the festival offers the
exciting addition of Radio Disney’s Team
Green, an interactive zone that takes the fun
approach to teaching kids about recycling,
reuse, preservation and conservation — all
through games and music. A parent or
guardian must accompany children at all
times. The Kids’ Zone is open from 10 a.m. to
6 p.m.
