Almost nothing sets the tone of a room more than color. Green
polka dots might be a bit much for the formal dining room, drab
gray may be a little too heavy for a Northwest living room.
But the right color choices with the right accents can do won-
ders for any room in a home.
“Wall color is the least expensive way to change a room but has
the most dramatic impact,” says Gretchen Schauffler, founder of
the paint company Devine Color. “Colors that are lively and rel-
evant enhance the quality of not only the walls, but of how life
feels in a room.”
Tammy Lefever
, owner of
Interior Motives,
says to proceed
with caution when using grays in the Northwest. If you’re pulled
toward them, make sure they blend in undertones of taupe or
blue or that they’re accented by bright whites.
Unable to find the worn, weathered French colors she needed
for the
Beauvoir
home, Lefever had Devine Color create an entirely
new — and with no volatile organic compounds — palette. The
colors are from Devine Color’s line called

.

“There’s just such a wide va-
riety of color palettes, from dif-
ferent tiles to countertops and
cabinets,” he says. “It’s really un-
limited.”
