2013 NW NATURAL STREET OF DREAMS
HOME
COURT
has conditioned attics and crawlspaces, which are
sealed and perform better than vented ones in terms
of safety, health and energy consumption.
“There’s an air exchanger that keeps it from being
too closed up and keeps it healthier,” Lumpkin says,
adding that the entire house is also wrapped with Envi-
roDri barrier to resist mildew and mold.
In fact all of the homes on this year’s NW Natural
Street of Dreams have been built to high standards
in terms of sustain-
ability and environ-
mental friendliness,
including indoor air
quality.
“With
where
technology is to-
day, there are some
great ways to pro-
mote healthy living
within your own
home,” says

Two of the prod-
ucts Hullinger and
Gerald
Rowlett
,
owner of
West-
lake Development
Group
, used in The
American Dream home do just that. The first is YOLO
Colorhouse paint, a line of non-toxic paint with no vola-
tile organic compounds. Rowlett says all paints in the
home are no-VOC and all stains are low-VOC.
The second product is unique even among this year’s
homes. Called AirRenew, it is an innovative gypsum
board drywall that actually removes VOCs in the air by
pulling them into the wall and converting them into
safe inert compounds.
“It’s the first home in Oregon to be done entirely in
AirRenew,” Rowlett says. “Most homes just have certain
areas done, but we did the whole home. It costs a little
more, but the benefits are really worth it.”
