During the 2013
NW Natural
Street of Dreams
you’ll view
three homes that feature ENERGY
STAR®
qualified Rinnai natural
gas tankless water heaters. Don’t
miss the “
Southern Exposure
,”
The Two Thousand Thirteen
,” and
the “
Cuvée
.”
The water heater is typcially
the most overlooked and under-
appreciated appliance in your
home, but it takes the biggest
bite out of your energy bills after
heating. In fact, a typical family
of four will use 26,000 gallons of
hot water each year. So it makes
sense to consider models that
give efficiency a boost and your
water heating budget a break.
Lower Energy Bills.
Natural
gas tankless units only heat water
as you use it. When the hot water
is off, it just hangs on the wall not
costing you a penny. With a tra-
ditional tank unit you’re always
paying as the water is consistant-
ly heated, cooled, and re-heated
throughout the day.
According to ENERGY STAR®,
you could save up to 30 percent
on your energy costs with a quali-
fied natural gas tankless unit.
And the savings will last long
after installation since it won’t
buildup sediment like its tank
counterpart and become less ef-
ficient overtime.
Plenty of Hot Water.
Natural
gas tankless units are designed to
provide a reliable flow of hot wa-
ter that can be used for multiple
purposes, like washing clothes,
dishes and taking a shower at the
same time, without cooling. It’s
important to note that tankless
units do not provide instant hot
water. Hot water still takes time
to flow from the unit to the tap
or shower.
Homes with a soaking tub or
spa system are often good can-
didates for a tankless unit. As you
will see in the Street of Dreams
5,000+ square foot family homes

,
banks of two or three tankless
water heaters will fulfill a family’s
larger hot water demands.
“The volume of water needed
at one time could be great and
energy costs would be significant
with standard water heaters,”
said Jamie Harris, Elite Develop-
ment Northwest. “ We appreciate
the energy costs savings these
tankless water heaters provide to
our clients.”
And in the event of a power
outage, a backup battery system
can keep the hot water flowing.
Space Saving.
Traditional
tank water heaters can take up
to 16 square feet of valuable floor
space.
About the size of a carry-on
suitcase, a tankless unit requires
a much smaller footprint in your
home or garage, freeing up addi-
tional living or storage space.
Last Longer. In general, it will
cost more to purchase and install
a tankless water heater than a
tank model. However, the energy
saved typically results in pay-
backs of a few years or less for
a family of four. Tankless water
heaters also last twice as long as
a tank model, up to 20 years.
Is one tankless unit enough
for most average sized
homes? It depends.
For homes with two bath-
rooms or more, there are tankless
models that can easily service
two or three applications at the
same time, like two showers and
a dishwasher or laundry. For very
large homes, and large hot water
usage, you may need a bank of
tankless units.
Installing natural gas tankless
water heating equipment im-
proves the quality of your fam-
ily’s life:
• There’s plenty of hot water
when you need it
• You can control the output
water temperature for comfort
and safety
• You can install them on virtual-
ly any wall, indoors or outdoors
