The
Home Builder Associa-
tion of Metro Portland’s Pro-
fessional Remodelers Organi-
zation
(PRO), which consists
of more than 230 of the area’s
top remodelers and designers,
is dedicated to more than just
creating exceptional homes.
The group strives to make a
difference in the community,
and, in recent years, has paired
with the
Home Builders Foun-
dation
(HBF) to improve the
livability and function of local
homeless shelters and to pro-
vide scholarships and mentors
for students working towards
construction-related degrees.
Each year, the PRO joins other
local companies at the HBF’s
Painting A Better Tomorrow
volunteer-blitz, which involves
completing minor repairs and
painting projects at area home-
less shelters. In 2011, the PRO
took on a painting at
Jean’s
Place
, a women’s shelter run
by
Transition Projects
. Under
the direction of
Nancy Long
of
Sisu Painting
, close to 20
volunteers joined together to
paint resident rooms and two
laundry rooms.
Additionally, the PRO contrib-
utes to the HBF’s
Building In-
dustry Scholarship Program
.
The PRO’s annual scholarship
supports the educational
efforts of local construction
programs and ensures a quality
workforce is available for the
industry’s future.
Due to its energy, commit-
ment to the industry, and
dedication to the community,
the PRO has been recognized
nationally with 13 prestigious
Council Awards for Demon-
strating Remodeling Excel-
lence. Category wins include
Outstanding Community Ser-
vice Project, Outstanding Mem-
ber Services and Education and
Outstanding Public Relations
and Promotion Program.
