Nearly 200 home building
professionals gathered last
June for the Home Builders
Association of Metropolitan
Portland’s sixth annual Excel-
lence Awards Banquet, which
recognizes the outstanding
work of local companies across
a variety of marketing, green
building, remodeling, and resi-
dential building categories.
This year, the association pre-
sented 28 awards to 21 differ-
ent companies. Winners were
selected by a panel of industry
professionals who rated each
project based on its aesthet-
ics, general design, budgetary
considerations, and challenges
and obstacles faced.
“The annual Excellence
Awards competition is a testa-
ment to the undying spirit of
the remodeling and building
industry in our community,”
said 2011 HBA President Karl
Finkelnburg. “Despite very
difficult economic conditions,
these professionals continue
to pour their hearts and souls
into their work and to produce
the highest-caliber projects. All
things considered, it is a great
time to purchase a new home
or revamp an existing home.
I applaud the individuals who
lead our association and indus-
try through their efforts and
commitment to excellence.”

Remodeler of the Year - Steve Pruitt
Steve Pruitt is a constant presence at
the Professional Remodelers Organiza-
tion (PRO) Executive and Marketing Com-
mittees where he regularly contributes
his knowledge and experience. As an ac-
tive participant in HBA/PRO programs, he
was a big winner at this year’s Excellence
Awards. He attended the remodelers
roundtable discussions in addition to being the 2011 Chair for the
Standard TV & Appliance Tour of Remodeled Homes. Steve, thank
you for your hard work!
Associate of the Year -
Louise Farrar-Wegener
As an active member who contributes
greatly to the HBA, Louise went above
and beyond this past year by giving a
lot of her time and expertise. Louise is a
long-time participant on the PRO Market-
ing and Executive Committees, as well
as the Standard TV & Appliance Tour of
Remodeled Homes. This year Louise donated her time and energy
to the NW Natural Street of Dreams VIP Outdoor Living Pavilion and
the Fall Home & Garden Show Tweet Lounge. Thank you Louise for
your commitment and dedication!
