With quiet elegance
and contemporary
style, it’s hard to
believe that just three
months ago this Lake
Oswego home was
sporting mauve decor
in the kitchen and master bathroom.
Without removing walls, Stanley
Renovation & Design transformed the
spaces into a modern, luxury hotel-like feel.
Free of clutter and focused on functionality,
company owners and married couple Mitch
and Arlene Stanley traded 1986 yellowed
oak cabinets for contemporary cherry
cabinets to warm up the kitchen.
Granite countertops replaced tile and
the cooktop was moved off the island and
replaced by a range. The sink and windows
also were relocated, allowing a new picture
window to provide tranquil views of the
backyard.
A slightly larger island and a built-in
drawer microwave now provides better
usability. The oversized desk on the half-
wall overlooking the family room below is
a better focal point as a wet bar, with easy
access in between the two entertainment
spaces.
Smokey green and blue glass tiles
embedded within the tile backsplash are
complemented by the new, smoky-blue
pendant lights illuminating the island and
wetbar. The walls provide
an earthy Northwestern
backdrop, accenting
the calming blues and
greens with a touch of
gray.
In the master
bathroom, a
free-standing
bathtub
with clean
lines now
sets the
mood for
the entire
space — simple, efficient and understated.
A custom porcelain tiled shower with two
shower heads replaced the cave-like, pink
fiberglass shower surround.
Already equipped with room for two
sinks and a long vanity, the bathroom also
was updated with cherry cabinets and a
white marble countertop. The mirrored wall
is now broken up by a tall cherry cabinet
between the two sinks, providing extra
storage. Hanging pendant lights provide
the finishing touch. All that’s missing
from this hotel suite is a “Do Not
Disturb” sign.
