Using a combination of aerobic exercise and weight training, Balogh’s customers — many who’ve recently had hip replacement surgery or endured physical therapy — often see results after mere weeks in her program. “I put them through a couple of movements the first day,” she said. “I watch them pick up hand weights from the floor, and that might lead us to a regimen of arm strengthening exercises. As women, we’re almost always weakest on top.”
She might recommend seated squats or side-stepping routines for folks who are beginning to lose their balance as they age. Balogh is a big fan of boosting core strength with abdominal exercises, and she supplements that reg-imen with classes focusing on flexibility.
Pilates and “boot camp” — which features exercise stations requiring clients to perform lunches and work for the gluteus maximus — round out her schedule. One thing Balogh won’t tolerate in her studio is boredom. “You can work all the muscles in the body in ways that are helpful but not redundant,” she said. “That’s my goal.” What does Baby Boomer Fitness do for folks that the gym down the street or the physical therapist can’t? It starts with the company motto: “Life Without Limits.” “I like to think they come to me and I take it to the next level for them,” said Balogh. “I want to help them see how exercise works for their body and their life.”
