Winning entries:
Take note as you witness this year’s winning
quilts as decided by judges Kathie Kerier and Kathleen O’Connor.
Both women have been dedicated to the art of quiltmaking from
early childhood, and have an uncanny eye for uniqueness and
craftsmanship with the quilting art.
Kindred spirits:
Mingle
with kindred spirits and meet
quilting celebrities under one
roof, as you hob-knob with
the best of the best. Be careful
not to laugh to hard near the
pincushions however, ouch.
Largest quilt display in the Northwest:
View the largest
quilt display in the Northwest. You’ll find your needle in a
haystack because there are more than 600 quilts on display
for you to enjoy, and gain inspiration from.
Take your time:
Whether you’re taking a class, watching a
demonstration or simply walkin’ the aisles, you don’t have to be
an expert to attend, but you can learn from one. Activities are
available for all types of quilters, even the non-quilters.
Honorable tributes:
Check out the “Alzheimer’s
Art Quilt Initiative” — a traveling exhibit with
236 quilts focusing on Alzheimer’s. Ten thousand
people who have or had Alzheimer’s or dementia
are honored through the power patchwork.
Vendor fair:
Explore all the new products,
tools, fabrics, hard-to-find quilting items and
everything in between at the vendor fair that
includes quilting’s top manufacturers from
around the country. This year, 89 vendors
will share their offerings and happily give
demonstrations at their booths.
Close proximity:
Portland Expo Center is located
off I-5 between downtown Portland and Vancouver,
Wash. With plenty of parking and metropolitan
transportation options, you’ll arrive in-style with a
smile on your face.
Special exhibits:
From the Hoffman Challenge’s
traveling quilt, clothing and doll collection, to
the Twelve by Twelve exhibit, you’ll be sure to
bring home cherished memories. “The Twelve by
Twelve: The International Art Quilt Challenge” —
highlighting 12-inch by 12-inch art quilts —will be on
display, showcasing 12 talented individuals.
Creative handiwork classes:
Classes are available from quality quilting
professionals at all hours of the day. With a variety of classes to choose
from— such as hand embroidery, creating unique silk scarves and
learning tricks to simplify your sewing — there’s a needle for everyone’s
thread. Also, enjoy great lectures given by experienced quilters.
