Government
Clackamas County is governed by
a five member Commission, elected
from throughout the county. In addi-
tion to the Commissioners the county
residents also elect a sheriff, district
attorney, assessor, clerk and treasurer.
The Board of Commissioners appoints
a county administrator who runs the
day to day operations. There are 15
incorporated cities in the county, and
several hamlets and villages, along
with unincorporated areas and spe-
cial districts.
City of Milwaukie
Milwaukie is a city of 20,000 that’s
nestled on the eastern bank of the
Willamette River just 10 miles south
of Portland. With an active citizenry as
the cornerstone, Milwaukie is poised
for great change. Plans are in place
for a dramatic new park along its riv-
erfront, and design is in full swing for
the next light rail line that will travel
through Milwaukie’s downtown. But
no matter how much things change,
Milwaukie will always protect its small-
town feel and rich history. Milwaukie
was first a pioneer village founded in
1848 and formally incorporated as
a city in 1903. It is the birthplace of
the Bing cherry and has come to be
known as the Dogwood City of the
West. To learn more about Milwaukie,
and what’s going on there, please visit
