There are no rivals to North
Clackamas when it comes to the
unique diversity that is a microcosm
of Oregon. The region is comprised
of four cities, much of the county’s
urban unincorporated area, and
rural agricultural lands. In whole,
they provide a wide variety of nature,
tourism and commerce options that
can only be found in a region of urban/
rural blend.
From the big city flavor of the
Clackamas Town Center Mall,
the
largest retail mall in Oregon, and the
MAX light rail
connecting North
Clackamas to Portland, to the rural
charm of the farms with the state’s
largest export of
Christmas Trees,
anyone looking for that unique place
for their family will be pleased to
discover North Clackamas.
One of the largest urban unincorpo-
rated areas includes the communities
of
Oak Lodge, Oak Grove, Jennings
Lodge
and
Clackamas.
If this area
were incorporated as a city it would
be the largest in the county, with over
35,000 residents. The unincorporated
areas go on to include vast amounts
of spacious farms offering agricultural
abundance that helps drive Oregon’s
economy and puts the county at the
top of the list for agricultural exports.
One of the county’s newest parks,
Boring Station Trailhead Park,
is
included in the North Clackamas
area. The newly developed site is also
the trailhead for the
Springwater
Trail,
which connects the area to
Gresham, west to Milwaukie and on
to Portland. In the Oak Grove area
the recently opened
Trolley Trail
traces the original trolley line with a
walking and biking trail. Throughout
the region natural trails and bike/ped
trails connect to each other to offer
many outdoor opportunities.
The unincorporated areas are
governed by a five-member Board
of County Commissioners who
direct the general government
administration of county government
and establish budgets to perform the
services that state law and citizens
require.
