2012-2013 North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce Business Directory
These are exciting times for the
City of Milwaukie. With
light rail
opening in 2015 and the first phase
of
Milwaukie Riverfront Park
to be
constructed in the spring of 2012,
new businesses are opening and
thriving on Main Street. Great things
are happening in Milwaukie.
Located just 10 miles south of
Portland, it still feels like a small-town
unto itself. Locals visiting the
Sunday
Farmers’ Market
across from City
Hall are bound to run into more
than a few familiar faces. Yet the
thousands of visitors who come to
the market are made to feel welcome
by the friendly locals. There are even
more opportunities to get out into
the community, whether it’s at the
summer concerts and movies in the
parks hosted by the Neighborhood
Associations, the
First Friday art
walks
in Downtown, or at the annual
Milwaukie Daze Festival
held at the
height of every summer.
Milwaukie is also home to several
businesses that have deep roots.
The world’s third largest comic book
publisher,
Dark Horse Comics,
is
headquartered in Milwaukie, as are
Bob’s Red Mill
and
Dave’s Killer
Bread.
Bob’s and Dave’s both have
stores on site, and Dark Horse offers
up the retail store ”Things From
Another Planet.” Large and small
alike, Milwaukie boasts renowned
businesses.
Enchante’ chocolatier
on Main Street has recently received
national recognition. The owners
took over Milwaukie Popcorn and
Candyland fifteen years ago, a
local business that had existed
in downtown for over 80 years,
and since then have guided the
store through growth in size and
recognition.
The
Willamette River
frames
the west side of the more than one
hundred year old city. Its expanses
offer a water playground for fishing,
water skiing, and more.
Yes, great things are happening in
Milwaukie, but the small town charm
will always remain!
Century old charm continues in Riverfront City
Milwaukie area events
Farmers Market
takes place downtown,
immediately across the street from City
Hall, May through October with live music,
food and beverages to eat on site or take
home, fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables,
bakery items, ceramics, information
booths and more.
Milwaukie Daze
is an annual celebration
with a parade and waterfront activities,
ending with a gigantic fireworks display,
held the third weekend of July.
Winter Solstice
is celebrated on the
banks of the Willamette with a community
bonfire, food and attraction booths and
community spirit.
Umbrella Parade
is a unique offering
with decorated umbrellas, children, pets
and everyone who wants to be part of the
Christmas season.
