Peggy Savage-Editor
Peggy Savage began a career in journalism as city reporter for The Stayton Mail. She later worked as city
reporter for the Keizertimes in Keizer, covering the police beat, local and state politics and the community.
She also worked for years in public relations and marketing. She studied journalism and earned her degree
after her youngest child started grade school, and then returned to get her Masters degree in writing at
Portland State University when the youngest graduated from high school. She began working at the Canby
Herald as education editor in February 2008. She was named editor of the Molalla Pioneer in late No-
vember 2012. While at PSU, she wrote, as her Masters thesis in 2007, a mystery novel about a small town
journalist investigating corruption in city hall and the police department. She still hasn’t gotten around to
getting the book published. The mother of six children, all grown, she enjoys golf, hiking, traveling, gar-
dening, reading and working on historical research. For years her passion was sailing the waters of the
Pacific Northwest in a 30-foot sailboat, with annual voyages on the Pacific Ocean from Oregon to Canada.
In her spare time, she is currently working on a new book, a historical novel.
Colin Storm-Sports & Business Editor
Colin Storm was brought on the Molalla Pioneer staff as the sports and business editor in the summer of
2012. Born and raised in Spokane, Wash. (with a little time in Grand Rapids, Mich.), Colin earned his B.A.
in journalism from Whitworth University in Spokane, where he was actively involved as a varsity tennis
player, an editor of the yearbook and newspaper, the sports talk radio host, and the student sports marketing
director. After graduating from Whitworth, he was a youth pastor and high school boys tennis coach in
Spokane, before joining the women’s tennis coaching staff at his alma mater, Whitworth. Colin completed
his master’s degree in intercultural studies and economic development from Fuller Theological Seminary
in June 2012, just before starting at the Pioneer. He is a big fan of playing and watching all sports —
especially tennis and basketball — and holds a number of pop-a-shot records, including the ESPN Zone at
Disneyland. In other spare moments he enjoys reading, writing, listening to NPR and hanging out with his
dog, Tucker.
Kim Schmidt-Advertising & Sales Manager
Kim was born into a logging family in southwestern Oregon, and has worked in several facets of the news-
paper business since she was a teenager. After being on the staff of the Island Record in Friday Harbor,
Washington, Kim started with Eagle Newspapers in 1983, and is looking forward to working with Pamplin
Media Group. This Oregon native enjoys being in the outdoors with hiking, camping, gardening,
photography and more. Volunteering, music, history, reading, cooking, and time spent with family and
friends round out her varied interests. However, it’s writing that she has loved since childhood, and awaits
publication of some of her work in an anthology to be released in the spring of this year.
Karen Hartrampf-Circulation Manager
Karen grew up in Dallas, Ore. She moved to Molalla 23 years ago after her marriage to Eddie Hartrampf.
She and her husband have three sons. Her career at the Pioneer started by helping her sons deliver news-
papers. She began working in the Pioneer office the summer of 2011. She enjoys bowling, music, singing,
playing piano, traveling, outdoor activities, and spending time with her family and friends.
