T
he idea of a holiday market in
Newberg had been bantered about
for a few years, but Aimée Reed,
Chehalem Cultural
Center arts
coordinator, said
after approaching the
Newberg Downtown
Coalition, the idea
started to become a
reality.
“We approached Mike Ragsdale
from the Downtown Coalition to say
we’ve been kicking around the idea of
some kind of holiday market in the
center,” Reed said. “All we had was the
idea, we were not sure how to structure
it.”
She said Ragsdale took it to his
vendors and they were really excited
about the idea.
“They’ve been looking for
something like this,” she said.
So Dec. 6-7, and Dec. 14-15, there
will be the first Newberg Holiday
Market at the CCC.
Reed said although it won’t be as
big as the market hosted by George
Fox University, it will promote locally
made items and artisanal vendors.
She said there will be vendors
featuring food, chocolates and gift
wares. But she’s hoping to also arrange
for a few food vendors for shoppers to
enjoy while browsing the market.
The market is also in conjunction
with another CCC program, Emerging
NW, which gives art students and
graduates an opportunity to showcase
their work.
“The idea of the holiday market is
you can buy either artisanal goods or
art for gifts,” Reed said.
All art pieces have been priced
between $150 and $500, affordable as
gifts for friends or family, she said.
“It’s all connected to support the
community,” she added.
Vendor applications were due Nov.
22, and Reed said
the vendors would be
announced shortly
thereafter.
“We want to make
sure we’re offering
something interesting
for everyone,” she said. “We’ve been
getting some really quality people.”
