An artists reception is set for Saturday, Dec.
7, from 6 to 9 p.m.
BEAVERTON TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY AND
HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE
— On Friday, Dec. 6,
starting at 5 p.m., the city of Beaverton will
host a variety of events ringing in the holi-
day season. The festivities begin with a Holi-
day Open House at Beaverton City Library,
12375 S.W. Fifth St., featuring a visit with
Santa and Mrs. Claus, music by the Beaver-
ton Community Band and city staff choir as
well as a children’s holiday craft workshop.
The party will then move across the street to
City Park at 6 with entertainment provided
by Radio Disney, Scandinavian dancing by
Leikarringen of Portland and Arts and Com-
munication Magnet Academy’s student
choir, Synergy. It continues at 7 with the tree
lighting. The Holiday Basket of Joy program
will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and
gift cards to benefit Beaverton’s low-income
youth and foster children throughout Wash-
ington County during the evening’s events.
DOWNTOWN BEAVERTON ASSOCIATION’S HOLIDAY
CELEBRATION
— Following Beaverton’s annual
tree lighting, the Beaverton Downtown
Business Association is teaming up with the
Beaverton Historical Society for this new
tradition. From 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6,
more than a dozen businesses invite folks to
stroll down Broadway and sample an array
of complimentary holiday treats. Businesses
also will provide entertainment and offer
discounts. The Beaverton History Center,
12412 S.W. Broadway St., is offering a dis-
play of specialty wreaths prepared by Bea-
verton’s Sister Cities. They will be for sale

Choir presents a smorgasbord of music.
Join in Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7,
at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m.
These free concerts are at Bethel Congrega-
tional United Church of Christ, 5150 S.W.
Watson Ave. Donations will benefit Home-
Plate Youth Services.
VINTAGE HOLIDAY PARTY
— The Beaverton His-
tory Center invites you to bring your favor-
ite holiday finger-food and join in a celebra-
tion of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from
7 to 9 p.m. Hot cider will be provided, and
Heartstrings will perform a festive selection
of music. The center is located at 12412 S.W.
Broadway St.
BEAVERTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA WINTER
CONCERTS
— The Beaverton Symphony Or-
chestra Winter Concerts will be held Friday,
Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 19, at 3
p.m. in Village Baptist Church, 330 S.W.
Murray Blvd. Join Music Director Travis
Hatton 30 minutes before each performance
for a conversation about the music that will
be performed. The orchestra will be joined
by special guest 3 Leg Torso. Tickets are $10
for adults, $5 for students and seniors and
$20 per family. They are available at the
