HOLIDAY EVENTS GUIDE

SEVENTH ANNUAL GIVE ‘N’ GOBBLE WALK/
RUN —
This year, the Give ‘n’ Gobble,
Sherwood’s Thanksgiving Day run/
walk and community food drive, will
celebrate its seventh year of an annu-
al event that benefits Sherwood’s
Helping Hands food bank. Last year,
more than 2,000 attendees participat-
ed in the event. The walk/run is set
for Thursday, Nov. 28, which begins at
Sherwood High School at 9 a.m. A
perfect start to a day of giving
thanks, this celebration has become
Sherwood’s most popular holiday tra-
dition as friends and neighbors get
together for a healthy run, walk or
waddle, that helps put an end to hun-
ger locally. This year also marks the
third year of donations raised from
the Give ‘n’ Gobble to benefit Helping
Hands’ “Backpacks for Kids Pro-
gram,” which provides nutritious
meals to kids at all four Sherwood el-
ementary schools who may not have
access to food at home. For these chil-
dren, often the only meal they get is
from the free- or reduced-meal pro-
gram at school. With “Backpacks for
Kids” they receive a backpack of food
to help them get through the week-
end. “The Give ‘n’ Gobble is critical
for the continued success in our local
food bank,” said Sherwood Mayor Bill
Middleton, who ran last year. “I also
like the fact that it gets citizens in-
volved from the community to just
have fun.” Visit givengobble.com.
