FOREST MARKET
— The public is invited to
the annual Forest Market, a lively, fun holi-
day shopping experience featuring sustain-
able and eco-friendly crafts and edibles
handmade by local artisans. Held in the Na-
ture Center at beautiful Tryon Creek State
Natural Area, 11321 S.W. Terwilliger Blvd.,
the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. on Dec. 7 and 8. Proceeds benefit the
Friends of Tryon Creek. The event is free
and open to all. The Forest Market is an an-
nual holiday shopping event that draws
hundreds of visitors every year to Tryon
Creek State Natural Area. Its offerings re-
flect the Friends’ passion for the wonders of
nature and the importance of environmen-
tal stewardship and sustainable living:
Items are locally made, handcrafted and cel-
ebrate the natural world. From ceramics,
accessories, jewelry, hand-woven baskets,
organic body care products and holiday
items to one-of-a-kind art pieces and much
more, there is something that is sure to
please everyone on your holiday list.
CHRISTMAS DESSERT CONCERT
— A yearly
event sponsored by the Hillsdale Community
Church, tickets ($6 for adults and $3 for chil-
dren) include dessert and hot beverage at an
evening of “sacred and secular” Christmas
musical favorites on Sunday, Dec. 8. Tickets
are available after worship on Sundays and
during office hours at the church. Event takes
place at 6:30 p.m. at Hillsdale Community
Church, 6948 S.W. Capitol Highway.
LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE
— On Saturday, Dec.
21, a service of healing and hope on the lon-
gest night of the year featuring quiet music,
time for silence, candle lighting and prayer for
those grieving or needing an hour of respite
in the midst of a sometimes-frantic season.
Event takes place at 7 p.m. at Hillsdale Com-
munity Church, 6948 S.W. Capitol Highway.
ALL AGES SPONTANEOUS CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
— A relaxing and low-key way to wind up
the holiday season on Sunday, Dec. 27.
Parts and costumes for everyone who
wants one, and one more opportunity to
sing your favorite carols. Event takes place
at 10:30 a.m. at Hillsdale Community
Church, 6948 S.W. Capitol Highway.
NEW YEAR’S AT NOON
— On Tuesday, Dec. 31,
stay awake for the party by counting down
to the new year at noon. From 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. there will be a pool float, all-ages dance
party and games and snacks. Countdown and
balloons will ring in the drop at noon, with a
family movie, “Wizard of Oz,” on the big
screen in the ballroom at 1 p.m. Event takes
place at 11 a.m. at the Mittleman Jewish Com-
munity Center, 6651 S.W. Capitol Highway.
