HBA
Background
Information
T i t l e / Com -
pany:
Travel
Agent , Sun
Connec t i ons
Travel & Cruis-
es, LLC
Years with the HBA:
Nine (previ-
ously in marketing at NW Natural
and Costa Pacific Communities)
Activities involved in with the
HBA:
Previously, Chair Commu-
nications Committee for both
the HBA and HBF. Membership
and SOD Block Party committee
member, regular participant in
Luke Morley’s skits and Christmas
kazoo band.
Business Basics
Education:
MBA Marketing, BA
Journalism
How’d you get started:
I have
been traveling my whole life,
and met the owner of Sun Con-
nections at a job fair where I was
originally looking for a marketing
position. She invited me to join
her company.
Secrets to success:
I have only
been a travel agent for a year, but
fortunately I know a lot of people
and I am told success will come if
you follow your passion.
Measuring success:
Helping my
clients plan unique trips and have
outstanding travel experiences
(in addition to cash flow).
Business mentors or heroes:
My
dad, who encouraged my educa-
tion and wanderlust, and Rudy
Kadlub, former boss and market-
ing guru.
Making the Call
Business decision you’re most
proud of:
Chartering a small
cruise ship on the Dalmation
Coast in Croatia for my first group
trip, and the 20 cabins sold out
within a month. We will be island
hopping from Split to Dubrovnik
on the Adriatic on a motorized
sailing vessel.
One you’d like to have back
:
Leaving my job at Chiat/Day Ad-
vertising in San Francisco – great
creative agency that did ads for
Nike, Intel and Apple.
Principals you use for big deci-
sions:
I tend to be intuitive and
go with my gut, but I also try look
at the big picture and long term
consequences for all involved.
The best business advice you’ve
received:
Everything you do in life
is marketing.
Where I’ve Been, Where I am
Going
What you learned from your first
job:
That I don’t like accounting.
First “career” job:
I was reporter
for a radio station where I wrote
and voiced feature stories for the
afternoon drive news.
As a kid, I wanted to be:
A tele-
vision news anchor and the next
Barbara Walters.
If I weren’t doing this, I’d be:
Working at a winery in market-
ing, public relations or event
planning.
Insider Information
People would be surprised to
know:
I have been playing soft-
ball since I was six years old and
still have a great arm (running the
bases not so much). I love to turn
a double play from second base.
If I could work for free for any
cause/charity, it would be:
Wildcat
Haven in Wilsonville.
Famous words I wished I’d said:
“Life is too short to drink bad
wine.”
I need more time on weekends
for:
Traveling, of course.

SPIKE
How they earn points: When a cur-
rent member recruits a new primary
member (full membership) they re-
ceive one (1) point. Each time the new
member renews their membership in
the coming years, the current member
receives half (.5) points. Each recruit-
ment of an affiliate or PRO member
adds half (.5) a point and renewal of
affiliate or PRO Council adds a quarter
(.25) of a point.
Congratulations to our
March 2013 Spikes!
