Homeowners and garden en-
thusiasts will find the 2013 Port-
land Spring Home & Garden
Show — the 66th annual show
— back at the Expo Center from
Feb. 20-24. The show brings to-
gether hundreds of vendors from
across the home and garden in-
dustry, from window companies
and local utilities to landscapers,
HVAC installers, remodelers and
many, many others.
In addition to the traditional
mix of vendors at the show, this
year’s iteration includes the re-
turn of several popular attrac-
tions. One of the annual favorites
is the Original Plant Sale, which
features grasses, perennials,
shrubs and more from scores of
area nurseries. Home Depot’s
Do-It-Yourself stage returns with
classes and resources for home-
owners, and the Portland Orchid
Society will have a wide array
of blooming orchids on display.
Also returning this year will be
the Showcase Gardens, of which
there will be 12. These gardens
feature unique designs and lay-
outs while showcasing some of
the latest landscaping and gar-
dening trends.
The show always draws thou-
sands of visitors over its four days,
more than half of whom come in
search of specific remodeling
products and services, according
to O’Loughlin Trade Shows, the
company that puts on the show
with the HBA. Terry O’Loughlin,
show producer and co-owner of
O’Loughlin Trade Shows, said the
quality of attendees — mean-
ing people who come not just to
look around, but to buy — has
improved over the past few years,
and that trend is expected to con-
tinue this year.
A new feature at the show this
year will be West-
lake Develop -
ment ’s Made in
America Home.
You may have
seen news cover-
age of the first
Made in America
home in Oregon
last year and
now you can
tour a replica of
the home at the
show. Westlake
will be creating a
scaled down version of the home
so you can see the process and
learn about what it takes to build
“all American.” There will be edu-
cational displays about sourcing,
materials, construction and more.
HBA members who are inter-
ested in seeing the show and
networking with other members
should mark their calendars for
Thursday, February 21 when the
HBA will be holding its annual
After Hours at the Home & Gar-
den Show. You can also keep up
with the latest updates, features,
and activities going on during
the show, by following the Twit-
ter hashtag #HomeHeroes.
