(.5) points. Each recruitment of an
affiliate or PRO member adds half

to network with the great group of builders and
others in the industry. We feel we are a great
source for natural stone tile and bring fantastic
value and products tomembers sowe just want
to let everybody know about Rock Bottom.
Business Basics
Training and Education:
My brother Sam and I
both graduated from Oregon State University.
I went on to do Medical Sales after college and
received extensive professional sales training
through a Global Medical Device Manufactur-
er called Hospira Worldwide.
How’d you get started with your current busi-
ness:
I had an acquaintance in the industry and
we recognized a need to provide quality natu-
ral stone at a reasonable price to customers
around the country. We wanted to reach farther
than just Portland and to date we’ve provided
material for projects in almost every State.
What advice would you give others starting
out in the industry:
Be unique and find the
niche that works best for you and just keep
pushing to reach your goals.
How do you measure “success”:
I think every-
body is going to have their own definition of
success. We’ve set out to build a company that
has a national reputation for quality natural
stone and we’re still on that path!
What’s your most useful business “tool”:
Our
online showroom, www.rockbottomtileand-
stone.com is by far our most important tool.
Business mentors or heroes:
When it comes
to mentors that both Sam and I look up to
it would have to be our father who was just
awarded a lifetime achievement award for
his work with tourism and the Chamber of
Commerce in Southern Oregon.
Making the Call
Business decision you’re most proud of:
Bring-
ing my brother Sam into Rock Bottom after he
graduated from Oregon State.
One you’d like to have back:
Not going there.
I’ve learned from it and moved on.
Principals you use for big decisions:
Follow
your gut and keep your eye on the big picture.
The best business advice you’ve received:
Work
smarter not harder but work hard to get there.
Oh, and get a CPA.
Where I’ve Been, Where I amGoing
First “career” job:
I started out in Medical
Sales for an Oxygen DME company andmoved
on to working for a medical manufacturer of
IV pumps and IV drugs prior to starting Rock
Bottom Tile and Stone LLC in 2008.
As akid, Iwanted tobe:
Of course I wanted to be
either aprofessional basketball or baseball player.
If I weren’t doing this, I’d be:
I would still be in
the medical sales field.

That I’m
6’6” and my Dad, yes my real Dad, is 5’10”
Words I live by/my motto:
Just to follow your
dreams and don’t let anybody tell you that you
can’t achieve them.
I need more time on weekends for:
Just relax-
