magine streets filled with
warm smiles, spirited raves
and memorable moments - you
have just entered the 2013
Gladstone Cultural Festival hosted
by the Gladstone - Oak Grove Rota-
ry. It’s a place where the entire
community of vendors, artists, en-
tertainers and participants come
alive August 1st through 4th, 2013.
Three days at the Chautauqua
Event will introduce attendees to
business vendors and local artists,
all proud to share product knowl-
edge and to showcase their creativ-
ity. Vendors include, but are not
limited to home, health, business
products and services, environ-
mental, and cultural. Throughout
the weekend, attendees may also
participate in fun family activities
and cool off with yummy ice cream,
shaved ice cones, and refreshing
beverages.
Adjacent to Max Patterson
Park is John Wetten Elementary
School - home of the Great Library
Book Sale. Be sure to bring your
sturdiest bags to carry your soft
and hard-bound treasures. Wetten
Field will host several activities, in-
cluding a strong military presence
complete with vehicles, machinery,
and manpower. Local bands, instru-
mentalists, vocal groups, dancers,
and speakers will be on hand to en-
tertain throughout the day and into
the evening.
A major highlight of the Festival
is the Parade down Portland Ave-
nue on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The
not-to-be-missed event will feature
Gladstone residents and friends
who will march, drive, walk, sing
and dance down the street. Fea-
tured will be many classic and spe-
cialty cars which will be on display
the next day at the “Cruise-In” -
the Classic Car Show on Sunday
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m as well as mil-
itary vehicles and public dignitar-
ies.
Although not officially part of
the Gladstone Cultural Festival,
there are important activities go-
ing on around the communi-
ty. Sports enthusiasts can partici-
pate in the traditional SHOC (She-
rie Hildreth Ovarian Cancer)
Run on Saturday. Throughout Sat-
urday and Sunday, the annual Lu-
theran Fellowship Softball Tourna-
ment finals will take place at the
Meldrum Bar Park. Over 400 at-
tendees and players will be cele-
brating “The Best of the Best”.
Other popular events will all be
part of the Festival, including Mov-
ie Night, Chili Cook-Off and the Ki-
wanis Pancake Breakfast. Take a

THURSDAY, AUGUST 1:
Movie Night
- starts at dusk, showing the fea-
ture, “We Bought a Zoo”
FRIDAY, AUGUST 2:
The official
Gladstone Cultural Festival kick-off
begins at 10:00 a.m. in the heart of
Gladstone at Max Patterson Park
with The Chautauqua Event. Pro-
grams will be packed with multiple
family activities that promise to
deliver fun and entertainment for
all ages to enjoy. A Senior
Lunch will be served starting at
11:30 a.m. and entertaining the
crown back by popular
demand,singer Nehemiah Brown
followed by DJ Glenn in the after-
noon and Bad Motor Scooter 7.0 to
round out the evening performing
on the Watts Festival Stage. The
All-Class Gladstone High School
Reunion Dinner will take place
at High Rocks Restaurant. The
Great Library Book Sale will con-
tinue throughout the day.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 3:
The tradi-
tional home-cooked Kiwanis Se-
niors Breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m.
at the Gladstone Senior Center. Pa-
rade line-up is scheduled for 8:30
a.m. at Gladstone High School.
The Parade will commence down
Portland Ave. at 10:00 a.m. Enter-
tainment at the Max Patterson
Park will begin on the Watts Festi-
val Stage at 12 Noon with a perfor-
mance by the Grand Finale Dance
Studio, followed by a free Zumba
class. Following the class, more
dance and music will be provided
by Beat BangerZ,Horizun, and Bad
Motor Scooter 7.0.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 4:
The first-ever
Portland Avenue Cruise In will fea-
ture classic cars; trophies will be
awarded and many great prizes
will be available to win at the raf-
fle. Proceeds from this fundraiser
will go to: NW Family Services and
the Gladstone - Oak Grove Rotary
Foundation, providing scholar-
ships & endowments for the future
professionals of this community.
Local businesses will be host-
ing weekend specials during the
day as car enthusiasts tour the
streets. For the more devout, Live
Gospel music by Have Gospel –
Will Travel including a positive
message will be provided on the
Watts Festival Stage from 9:00 a.m.
- 11:00 a.m. and don’t forget to
bring your tasting skills to the an-
nual “Not Yet Famous” Chili Cook-
Off at Max Patterson Park. The Li-
brary Sale will continue on and
musical entertainment will be pro-
vided by Positive, Funky, Acoustic
Guitarist Ed Kopp. The Festival
will conclude at 5:00 p.m.

GLADSTONE PARADE
The Gladstone Parade will form at Gladstone High School,
18800 Portland Avenue and begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday,
August 4th. Parade participants should enter from the
north end of Portland Avenue, near Glen Echo Avenue and
be in the parking lot area by 9:00 a.m.
The 2013 Gladstone Cultural Festival
presents the first annual family golf
tournament which is being held at
The Children’s Course (19825 River
Road) on Saturday, August 3rd at 2:30.
The event will include
great prizes, a raffle
drawing and box lunch.
The Gladstone Rotary
and The First Tee of Great-
er Portland are very thank-
ful to US Bank and Toyota
for sponsoring this great
community festival, as
their generosity has al-
lowed us to make this an
affordable, family-friendly
event.
The proceeds from the golf tournament
will support the Rotary with their schol-
arship programs at Gladstone High
School, Rex Putnam High School, an en-
dowment at Clackamas Community Col-
lege, The First Tee with their outreach
programming in the community.
The Children’s Course, home of The
First Tee of Greater Portland, has been
teaching life skills through the game of
golf since 1996. During that time, The
Children’s Course has positively impact-
ed the lives of over 31,000
young people in our com-
munity.

The First Tee of Greater
Portland is to impact the
lives of young people by pro-
viding educational pro-
grams that build character,
instill life-enhancing values
and promote healthy choic-
es through the game of golf.
At The Children’s Course there is pro-
gramming for 4-6 year olds called Discov-
ery Golf and The First Tee classes and
camps for children ages 7-17. We are also
a public golf course open 7 days a week
from 7:30 am-7:00 pm.
