INTRODUCTION
Those who reside in East County
know that life out here is a blend of
small-town flavor with big-city ingre-
dients. We love our community tra-
ditions. We support the addition of
new ones. We believe in the power
of our mom-and-pop businesses and
embrace large industry.
What was once a sleepy suburb
of Portland, polka-dotted by pastures
and berry fields, has blossomed into
a culturally diverse economic center
that enriches the fabric of our entire
community.
Welcome to East County
Leader, a new publication designed
to introduce those who add color
to the business landscape of this
area. Each month, you will meet local
business people who not only provide us
with their products and services but also
offer their time and talent through com-
munity volunteerism.
We will tempt you with amazing reci-
pes from local chefs, suggest ways to get
out and enjoy what our area has to offer
and see what local bookworms keep on
their nightstands.
We also will acquaint you with gen-
erational businesses, whose deeply em-
bedded roots embody the entrepreneurial
spirit of those who first hung out a shingle
here more than a century ago.
The fact that many of our area busi-
nesses have set up shop in historic build-
ings and pioneer homes illustrates the his-
tory East County has as a leader. Early
settlers, and the forward thinkers who fol-
lowed, recognized the area’s livability and
laid foundations for the needs of future
generations. They established a county
fair, a community college and a state-of-
the-art medical center. They found cre-
ative ways to preserve beloved commu-
nity events and continue to create ways
to gather residents together to celebrate
community pride. Today, East County
encompasses approximately 150,000 resi-
dents, each making unique contributions
to the rich character of our hometowns.
We invite you to become acquainted
with the business people in your neighbor-
hoods and see why they are today’s East
County leaders.
