Welcome
I hope you enjoy the
newly designed 2013-14
Beaverton Community
Guide. It’s a fine
publication!
As I reflect on
how much we have
accomplished together,
I am honored to serve
as your Mayor. Our city continues to strive
to represent The Best of Oregon. Recently,
we received national recognition for our
sustainability efforts and have secured
millions in federal grant dollars to support
downtown revitalization, community health
efforts, and brownfield redevelopment. And
we are not done!
Just as our city has seen positive changes,
you may have noticed our Community
Guide has seen some, too. This year,
Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District
and the Washington County Visitors
Association have partnered with the
Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce and
the city — helping grow the success of this
beautiful publication. This effort is just
another shining example of Beaverton’s
collaborative spirit!
This year, the city will continue to focus
on strengthening our partnerships —
because no organization can meet today’s
challenges alone. That is why our nationally-
recognized Beaverton Community Vision
program is bringing together more than 60
partners to help us reach our goals. Today,
I am happy to report that 91 percent of the
community vision priorities are underway.
For a 20-year plan to have accomplished so
much in just three years shows that the city
and its partners are committed to making
Beaverton better.
Speaking of charging ahead, Beaverton is
proud of Nike’s recent decision to expand
its world headquarters in Washington
County. Nike continues to be a leader in job
creation, and generates excellent economic
opportunities in our region and in our state.
In Beaverton, we will continue to drive our
economic development strategies forward
to make Beaverton the most attractive
and competitive community in the region.
We have added some impressive tools to
increase our competitiveness. And people
are noticing! We’ve added nearly 650 acres,
voluntarily, to our city in the past five years.
Businesses and land owners want to join our
city, work with our community, and grow
and expand their opportunities. They know
what we know, that Beaverton is truly The
Best of Oregon!

Welcome to the
2013-2014 Beaverton
Community Guide.
There are so many new
and good things going
on organizationally in
our Chamber and in our
community – things
are going to be very
different here in the next
5 years. Did you know
the Beaverton Chamber,
in an independent study, was ranked the
number 1 Social Media Friendly Chamber
in the state? 69th in the nation? We are
strategically and deliberately evolving our
programming and activities to be relevant
and cutting edge for our members.
The Community Vision plan continues
to evolve and make differences each
day. More than 90% of the action items
are underway or complete (and this is a
20-year plan). Our enterprise zones have
been expanded and have resulted in job
creation and revitalization in the heart of
our community. Nike is staying at home
and growing at home! Our City is moving
its general services to the South Office
building at the Beaverton Round and the
retail space is filling up. The South Plaza is
under construction and will be gorgeous by
the end of summer. Creek revitalization is
underway and so much more. Beaverton is
growing up.
This Guide is a tremendous tool to
help you support your locally owned and
operated businesses. Shopping local is
important….it is, in fact, vital! Please
reference this guide and frequent our
members and advertisers. They believe in
Beaverton and I know you do too!
If you have a business in our area and
want to join forces with an active, positive,
energetic association of business and
community leaders dedicated to improving
the quality of life in the Beaverton area……..
we’d love to have you! It feels good to make
a difference.
