Future Planning
South Cooper Mountain
Following the state Land Conservation
and Development Commission’s recent
verbal approval of Metro’s October 2011
Urban Growth Boundary expansion decision,
the city of Beaverton is coordinating with
property owners to facilitate annexation of
the 540-acre South Cooper Mountain area.
Located along SW Scholls Ferry Road
at the city’s southwest corner, the South
Cooper Mountain annexation area is
comprised of mostly undeveloped land,
in close proximity to jobs, shopping and
services.
The Round Redevelopment
This past year marked a big turning point
in The Round development in downtown
Beaverton. In March, the City Council
unanimously approved the purchase of the
South Office Building at The Round for $8.65
million. The city also worked with a local
developer who purchased the remaining
parcels at the development.
Beaverton Creek District
Beaverton was awarded a $1 million
federal grant in May 2012 to assist with
the city’s ambitious Creekside District
Master Plan. A concept that came from the
community visioning work and that was
later refined in the Beaverton Civic Plan, the
creekside district imagines utilizing the
downtown’s natural assets to help revitalize
the area. The city is investing an addition
$1.4 million into the plan and working with
several regional partners on the concept.
Beaverton Civic Plan
Beaverton’s Civic Plan provides a realistic
set of strategies for fulfilling many of the
goals identified through the Beaverton
Community Vision. It calls for:
• Improved bike and
pedestrian network
• More plaza and open space
• Active support for job creation
• Transforming the downtown area
• Creating vibrant neighborhoods
