What I love best
of all about receiving gifts is
enjoying the wrapping paper, especially during the
holidays. It can be funny, whimsical, unique and
ridiculous or plain — all of it makes me happy, as I
know someone took their time to wrap it especially
for me.
And, half the fun of giving a present is the pre-
sentation. Flaunt your wrapping style, especially
during the holidays when you know everyone likes
to “ohhhh” and “awwww” over the beautifully
wrapped gifts — before wildly tearing them open.
Of course, there are always those who methodi-
cally pull of the ribbon and slowly unwrap each
piece of tape, before, ever so gently, removing the
paper — eek! That drives me crazy.
Just rip it open and enjoy the delicious gift inside.
Local shop owners shared some ideas using their
store’s products:
Paper Caper:
Suzanne and
Kristina Roberts, owners and moth-
er an daughter, used solid, shiny
green paper and added metallic
gold bows on top and elevated the
entire package by placing a large
U of O gnome on the bows. Small
football gnomes hanging from the
ribbon complete the look. Solid and
striped boxes coordinate perfectly
with festive ribbons, greenery and
ornaments.
Paper Caper has amazing racks
of select custom-designed holiday
and gift papers as well as ribbons
and decorative ornaments to choose
from. They are well-known for
beautiful, unique wrapping, from
large presentation pieces to small
gifts.
Paper Caper is located at 16829 65th
Ave. in Lake Oswego and can be
reached at 503-620-9460.
Westlake Gifts:
I fell in love
with these Italian Fabric Wraps
from Westlake Gifts. They are eas-
ier to wrap than a gift bag and re-
quire no tissue. Just set your gift in
the middle and bring up the sides.
The wired edges form beautiful
bows, like a flower blooming. Use
a small ribbon or tulle to secure
them. Available in varying sizes,
colors, swirls, dots and stars, owner
Cathy Kusler said they’re popular.
Her innovative customers have also
used them to wrap wine bottles or
as table toppers. Best of all?
Use them over and over again.
Red, twistable yarn is easy to
use on packages and makes perfect
bows and adornments for gifts.
Westlake Gifts is located at 14535 West-
lake Drive, #C in Lake Oswego and can
be reached at 503-684-2535.
Graham’s Book and Statio-
nery:
If you’re somewhat adven-
turous, go for bright bursts of colors
— and lots of bling — when wrap-
ping gifts.
These creatively wrapped gifts —
in shades of lime green, magenta,
electric blue and purple — get
noticed. Topped with sheer wired
ribbons, sparkle pieces and colored
cocktail picks, owner Teri Graham
and artist friend Sonya Donnelly
had fun with their unique, contem-
porary and whimsical creations.
Take note of these amazing
stretch tubular ribbons in different
sizes.
Use it to wrap, make bows and
cut off the ends for a pointed, por-
cupine effect. Don’t forget to scatter
a few graceful peacocks on your
packages for extra attention. Col-
ored pipe cleaners also add a new
dimension.
Graham’s Book and Stationery is lo-
cated at 460 Second St. in Lake Oswego
and can be reached at 503-636-5676.
