horse drawn carriage. Slow down and

season with a memorable sleigh ride

GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP
Dec. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Come to the Luscher Farm for an old-fashioned gingerbread house making workshop with Chef Laura
Content. Learn how to bake gingerbread, decorate a gingerbread house and take home some dough to
bake. When you’re done, make holiday cards to share with family and friends. This event is for ages 6 to 13
and the cost is $40 for Lake Oswego residents; $45 for
non-residents.
HOLIDAY HOUSES OF LAKE OSWEGO, A GINGERBREAD
HOUSE COMPETITION WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES
Dec. 10 to 25
Celebrate the holiday season with Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation’s third annual Gingerbread House
Competition. Local businesses will show their skills by creating a one-of-a-kind gingerbread house to display
in their store. Pick up a tour map at the Parks and Recreation office — located in the West End Building at
4101 Kruse Way — and visit all the homes, and vote for your favorite. The winner of the competition receives
a trophy and bragging rights for the whole year.
CHRISTMAS SHIP PARADE
Dec. 15, 6 p.m.
This marks the 58th year of the magical Christ-
mas Ship Parade. This holiday tradition began in
1954 with a lone sailboat from the Portland Yacht
Club. Boats from 14- to 65-feet-long are brightly
colored for the holiday season. As many as 60 holi-
day boats are expected to make up the two fleets
that will make their way to Lake Oswego. They will
depart from RiverPlace Marina and continue as far
as George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, arriving
between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. to Foothills Park.
Make plans to enjoy the sparkle of the colorful flotil-
las from the shores of the Willamette River at Foot-
hills Park. A warm fire in the shelter will guard you
from the frigid winter temperatures. For additional
information, visit christmasships.org. The event is
dependent upon weather and river conditions.

households in Oregon, and fight hunger so no one will go hungry.
FILL A STOCKING, FILL A HEART
Through Dec. 14.
This local nonprofit organization, run by volunteers, assists agencies in Clackamas
County by providing the neediest families with basic household items along with a few
special gifts in each filled stocking during the holidays. Pick up an empty stocking from
one of the city’s drop-off sites at city hall, the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center
and the West End Building and return the filled stocking by Dec. 7 at any of those

WHITE CHRISTMAS
Dec. 12 to Dec. 23
Filled with Irving Berlin’s songs and featuring a new book by
David Ives and Paul Blake, “White Christmas” tells the story of
veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, two men who have
a successful song and dance act after World War II. When
Phil meets beautiful sisters Betty and Judy, he plays
matchmaker and introduces Bob to Betty. When the sisters
travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show,
Bob and Phil follow, only to find their former command-
ing officer, General Henry Waverly, is the lodge owner.
Romantic sparks fly and snow falls. The score features
a whopping 17 Irving Berlin hits, including “Sisters” and,
of course, “White Christmas.” The play is based on the
Paramount Pictures film written for the screen. Join the
Lakewood Center, located at 368 S. State Street, for
its production of this classic holiday romance, directed
by Dan Murphy. For more information, showtimes
and ticket prices, call 503-635-3901 or visit www.
