McLoughlin House
A unit of Fort Vancouver National
Historic Site

The McLoughlin House is a
Georgian-style white clapboard house
that was built in 1845-46 by Dr. John
McLoughlin, known as the Father of
Oregon. He is credited with starting
Oregon City. Guides dressed in peri-
od clothing lead tours through the
house, which is designated as a
National Historic Site. The
McLoughlin House and adjacent
Barclay House are available for tours,
which start at the Barclay House. The
houses are closed on major holidays,
for nearly two weeks at the end of the
calendar year, and during each
January and February. Hours: Friday
and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Home- museum honors the Harley
Stevens and Medorem Crawford fam-
ilies, early prominent settlers of the
West. Classical 1908 Foursquare
architecture, filled with curious trea-
sures of home life from the mid-
1800’s through the mid-1900’s.
Current exhibit: “Clothing &
Household Embellishments: Treasures
of Lace, Beadwork & Embroidery,
1900-1930.” Free guided tours.

Milwaukie Museum

Milwaukie
This small museum was formally
the George Wise family farmhouse,
built on Lake Road in 1865. Former
owners of the house, United Grocers,
Inc., donated the structure to the
Milwaukie Historical Society. Special
guided tours for school classes,
scouts, clubs and small groups dur-
ing the week can be arranged by
appointment. Open Saturday and
Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Call 503-654-

Oregon Military Museum
The museum is currently closed for
renovation. A tentative opening is
scheduled for 2014. Call 503-683-
