MAKE GETTING THERE HALF THE FUN
— Kids love trains, things that go fast and
getting to cover a lot of ground, so why not
spend some time just being on the go? Tri-
Met offers buses, trains and streetcars to
take you from place to place across the
city and day passes cost less than $5. Chil-
dren younger than 7 ride free with a pay-
ing passenger and youth prices are avail-
able for anyone younger than 17. In addi-
tion to the main commuters, Portland’s
Vintage Trolley has been offering nostal-
gic rides since 1991 when rep-
licas of streetcars from the
early 1900s were reintroduced
to the city. The trolleys run on
select Sundays only from May
through December. This
year’s dates include May 26,
July 7, Sept. 1 and Dec. 1, 8, 15
and 22. A trip includes stops
at all the MAX stations of Southwest Fifth
and Sixth avenues between Union Station
and Portland State University. It takes
about 30 minutes and is free, though dona-
tions are accepted. For more information,
visit trimet.org.
